"Casa5 was an excellent choice, we really enjoyed our stay there. The bridge to the bathroom is really unique, that was our favourite spot. Breakfast was also OK, the best being the freshly squeezed orange juice. The house is located just steps away from the centre, from the ferry to the Ilha de Tavira and basically from everything you might need. Despite all this it is a calm place. We were happy that we didn't opted for a hotel, but for Casa 5. It is a peculiar, romantic place to stay and Matthijs is a very nice host. Make sure to check out the gallery downstairs as well!"

My stay in Casa 5 was not the cause of being an artist or a tourist but to collect some practical experience in working with art and an art website.
When I sent my request to Matthijs I still was in Mexico. Matthijs spontaneous invited me to come. So after just 3 weeks back in Germany I packed my luggage again and took a flight to Faro, then the train to Tavira. Matthijs and Bli welcomed me very cordially and I moved in the guest-room in Casa 5 (I loved the bridge between the room and the bathroom).
The next day Matthijs and I wanted to start working enthusiastically but we were not able to connect my laptop with the Casa 5 wireless LAN (something not insignificant if you want to work on a homepage). After 3 days of finding a solution I moved to a Cafe to work there with my laptop. Matthijs had given me a good introduction how to work on his homepage and during my stay of 3 weeks I worked with a book about New Media & Art. So (almost) every day I spend some hours in the Cafe or in the library, working on the homepage and enjoying the Portuguese coffee and pies. We talked about problems and ideas later on the day. For my practical experience the stay gave me an interesting view about a field of art that did not concern me much before (now in fact I did some more research and during my actual own work and my studies I am working a bit in this direction of art). Also Matthijs showed me how to work with a website.
I came to Tavira in April. I felt a bit like being escaped from cold Germany to the nice and sunny Tavira. Some days I spend on the beach or did a work in the nature enjoying the sun. My first impression was, that Tavira might be a bit to calm. But soon I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Matthijs, Ble and I spend some nice evenings together, had some coffees, breakfast together and after a while I felt at home in Casa 5. I met Rudolfo and Nuno, who left a huge impression in my mind. Nuno showed me the secrets of Algarve’s nature and a night in the river valley with 2 Dutch girls and Nuno midst orange trees, hills and nightingales became the highlight of my stay in Portugal.
All in all I had a great time in Tavira. Maybe my stay was a bit different than I expected it to be before, but at the end I was happy about the experience. I met nice new friends, the work gave me some interesting input, I had time to think about myself by walking along the long and quiet beach and I really enjoyed the spring in Tavira.

We came to casa 5 to perform the premiere of the dance and music piece called "mayu". Casa 5 produced the event and it was a great experience. We were supported technically and spiritually, and that accumulated into a beautiful performance. casa 5 has a good location, we went to the island and walked arround the town almost everyday. The accomodation was very comfortable. with mathias and bli's super-warm hospitality we had a happy and fruitfull time. we are thankfull that there' s organizations like casa5 doing residencies and producing events in such beautiful places. Speciall thanks for the organization of the performance, it was beautiful to see that there's many people interested in our work. we considered it a success!!!!
thank you mathias, bli, tuta and filip

Beautiful Tale – Staying as a resident in Casa 5, Tavira, Portugal Several days are gone from my arriving back to Georgia. And now, with “cold mind”, I can share with you several opinions and impressions I got in Tavira, Portugal, where I was a resident artist for a month in Casa 5 art gallery. First I want to start my article about the place, I was. It will not be news for them who already have had a happiness of being there, but for them who have not, I will be one more person to give them an advice – visit this wonderful, beautiful town, in the southern part of Algarve, Portugal. Town is really full with historic places, beautiful buildings, has wonderful beach, great warm weathers during the most part of the year…. And what is also very important, the people around are very warm, nice and hospitable. What about my staying as a resident: It was a very big happiness for me to be a resident in Casa 5, this gave me a chance to work hard on my artistic project, and to have an exhibition in the gallery. Also for sure, it was a great place to have a rest, and being in this town, with all it’s plural sights really helps for it. You never now in advance exactly, what kind of place is it, you are going to visit, and what kind of people you will meet there…. I was really lucky, Matthijs and Bli appeared the people, I could only dream about. I am happy that now I have such a good, warm and nice friends, and they are also very big professionals in the field we work - Art. They promised that my staying there would be great moment for me, and they did it! By the way, they did it with their hearts, and every time tried to do something good, interesting and new for me – Huge thanks for it my nice hosts! Also they have very nice friends, and I am happy that I had a chance to visit them with my hosts. It was very interesting moment for me – visiting people of different culture, having with them speech, is every time very interesting, and even amazing, when those people appear great – as it was in my case. Great memories from them! In the studio I worked hard. I wish I could work so hard in my native, because in Tavira I had a huge time for painting…. I did about 80 paintings and I am happy about it…. It was really great experience for me. All around, landscapes, people, beautiful town, gives you many many great impressions, that if you are an artist, and if you have a time, just put your feelings on the paper: what else can any artist in the world dream about? So, it was exactly this rare moment for me… concentrating and working …. And finally, the exhibition appeared interesting… And, successful… Many paintings were sold. And it happened that my exhibition opening was exactly on my birthday! So, it was unforgettable! And all those guests, joy and situation, was wonderful. Hosts and everyone tried to do everything in a very nice way, and they did it! It was beautiful day really! Thanks so much! November 23, 2010 3:30 PM Blogger Giorgi said... Working hard, those wonderful impressions, also nice speeches with artists and hosts about art gave me a lot, to grow as an artist and as a person. At last, I want to write about all those wonderful people I met in Tavira: friends of my hosts, and people I met occasionally and was in a good friendship. Lots of nice memories from all of them. And Philip, son of Bli was also very friendly! Greetings to him. And Matthijs and Bli, kindest wishes from me. I wish once we really meet, may be even in Tbilisi, where I will have a chance to be as good host for you as you were for me. And help you to get as many positives as you gave me. I am full with love, with happiness and joy _ because of many reasons, during my nice journey I got there! Thank you! And Cheers! George.
